Legal Aid of Nebraska exists to promote justice, dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency through quality civil legal aid for those who have nowhere else to turn. We want to bring change to the lives of those we serve in our community. With your help we can make a difference.
We provide information, referrals, advice, self-help services, limited assistance and representation to qualifying low-income individuals with civil legal issues. The type of assistance we provide depends upon your situation, the legal issue, and Legal Aid’s resources.

The AWRP helps agricultural workers in Nebraska assert their employment rights. Our focus is on ensuring agricultural workers are paid what they are owed under the law; ensuring that their working conditions are safe; and addressing harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

Criminal and juvenile records create lifelong barriers to employment, educational, housing, and social opportunities. Legal Aid’s Clean Slate Project focuses on helping people get dismissed criminal charges sealed and convictions set aside or pardoned to help address barriers caused by having a criminal record.

The Disaster Relief Project provides information and legal assistance to victims of state-declared natural disasters, such as flooding, tornadoes, and severe storms.

Legal Aid of Nebraska’s Farm and Ranch Project offers free services to individuals and families throughout rural Nebraska, with a particular (though not exclusive) emphasis on agriculture.

HELP seeks to address legal problems that have an overall impact on personal and public health. HELP provides legal education and services in partnership with hospitals, health centers and medical providers that refer individuals directly to HELP, identifying patients with legal needs that impact their health.

The Housing Justice Project includes attorneys and support staff dedicated to addressing housing needs of low-income Nebraskans statewide. The project protects foreclosure and eviction rights, ensures low-income housing is safe and habitable, and develops new community-based efforts to help low-income families access affordable housing.

Legal Aid has a contract with Lancaster County to provide legal representation to parties in the Separate Juvenile Court of Lancaster County, this project has been serving Lancaster County for more than three decades.

Legal Aid of Nebraska’s Native American Program provides free civil legal assistance to Native Americans either living in Nebraska or having a legal issue pending in a tribal, state, or administrative court located in Nebraska.

Legal Aid of Nebraska’s REACH Initiative provides information and free civil legal assistance to victims of elder abuse and financial exploitation across Nebraska, and to victims and survivors of domestic violence in the 45 rural counties served by our Lincoln, Grand Island, and Scottsbluff offices.

Legal Aid of Nebraska’s Tax Law Project works to ensure the fairness and integrity of the tax system for low-income taxpayers by educating about taxpayer rights and responsibilities, providing free representation in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and identifying and advocating for issues impacting low-income taxpayers.

UPLIFT is a community-based project that seeks to provide legal education and services in partnership with three community centers: the Good Neighbor Center, the Asian Community and Cultural Center, and El Centro de las Americas.
